Check out, World’s first cable-free elevator

It seems like those days are gone, when we would wait in long queues to get into an elevator that would take us to different floor of a skyscraper. Now, ThyssenKrupp, a German multinational conglomerate corporation, has come up with a cable free elevator, that will not only take you up and down but also horizontally. Interestingly, instead of cable, this futuristic elevator will be magnet driven, instead of the cables, that were conventionally used. MULTI, as it is called, will use linear motor technology, that works with Maglev, technology similar to what is used in some high-speed trains. Capable of moving both vertically and horizontally, the self-propelled elevators will accommodate multiple cabins. It will come with two motors, one of which will be used for horizontal movement and the other one for vertical motion.

world’s first rope-free elevator systemMULTI is particularly designed for skyscrapers with an optimum height of at least 300 meters. It is expected, that this multi purpose elevator will reduce elevator footprint by almost 50%, and will increase available space in the building by 25%. Also, the waiting time of the passengers is expected to reduce considerably to about 5 to 30 seconds, thanks to the system, that comprises of multiple cabins running in a loop at 5 meters per second. The futuristic MULTI elevator system by ThyssenKrupp is scheduled for testing by the end of 2016.
